LED Lighting solutions for Sporting stadiums and clubs

Designing the LED Lighting requirements for sporting venues and clubs often involves specialist engineers with a good deal of experience. Issues such as the need to reduce LED lighting pressure and ensuring minimal burn out requires bespoke design and install solutions.

Lighting often needs to be different for practice and full-pitch play and the lighting itself can vary from Class 1 to Class 3 depending on the sports and level of professionalism. Specific solutions, such as ‘flicker-free’ lighting to cater for slow motion video footage may need to be considered and catered for. Sports halls also need specialist solutions, especially as they are often used for exams and any lighting needs to work for both scenarios.

St George’s College, Weybridge – internal and external sports pitches

St George’s is the largest Catholic independent school in the UK. With an estate in excess of 180 acres, 1,700 children and 450 people, its energy demands are huge. This video describes the journey that Powercor & St George’s partnership has taken over the last 25 years to manage the power infrastructure and also focusses in on the extensive sports-pitch improvements we have made at the school.

We have been working with Powercor on a number of lighting projects at Wembley Stadium, but the most recent one deserves special attention. Powercor were asked to replace 726 light fittings and all controls in under six weeks (with Christmas break in between) in Great Hall. During the first days of the project, we found out that all the cabling between the control boxes (located on a different level of the stadium) and the fittings needed replacing. Powercor came up with a solution - the original completion date couldn’t be moved. Powercor not only replaced all lights, controls and cabling in time, but a week ahead of the agreed completion date, enabling us to decorate the space in time for our first major event of 2024!
