Solar panels for commercial buildings in Woking

Energy costs are one of the biggest overheads hitting Woking businesses right now, and they’re not heading south any time soon. Whether you own or occupy a commercial building in Woking, solar gives you the power to generate your own electricity, cut your bills hard, and lock in long-term financial certainty. Powercor has been delivering commercial solar across Surrey for over 25 years. We design, install, and maintain systems built specifically around your building and your business, not pulled off a shelf.

Every roof. Every business. Every time.

No two commercial buildings are the same, and neither are our installations. Powercor designs bespoke solar systems for every type of commercial property in Woking. Whether your roof is flat, pitched, or somewhere in between, we’ll make it work.

We work with offices, warehouses, industrial units, retail premises, leisure facilities, and mixed-use buildings. If your building has a roof and a meaningful energy bill, there’s almost certainly a strong case for solar. We’ll tell you exactly what that case looks like based on your building, your consumption, and your numbers.

Not sure whether your premises is a good fit? A free site assessment from our team will tell you exactly what’s possible, and what it’s worth to your bottom line.

The numbers don’t lie. Solar pays.

The financial case for commercial solar has never been stronger. Every unit of electricity your system generates and you consume directly is a unit you don’t buy from the grid. Multiply that across a 25-year system lifespan and you start to understand why so many Woking businesses are moving fast.

Here’s what your investment typically delivers:

  • 4–7 year payback on most commercial installations, with systems reliably producing for 25+ years beyond that
  • Near-zero marginal cost per unit for all electricity your array generates and you use on-site
  • Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) income on any surplus electricity you export back to the grid if you have a compatible meter
  • Energy price insulation. A portion of your consumption fixed at effectively zero, regardless of what the wholesale market does next
  • Potential capital allowances. Your accountant can advise on the tax treatment of the investment

The businesses getting the best returns are those acting while installation costs remain competitive and payback periods are still short. Every year you wait is another year of energy bills you didn’t have to pay.

What you get with a Powercor commercial solar installation

We manage the entire project, from first conversation to the day your system goes live, and well beyond. For your Woking commercial site, that means:

  • Free energy assessment and ROI modelling: based on your actual bills and consumption data, not industry averages
  • Bespoke CAD design: a detailed technical layout for your specific roof, produced by our in-house engineering team at no cost to you
  • Full DNO and planning management: all approvals handled on your behalf, with no added complexity landing on your desk
  • Professional installation across flat, pitched, and low-ballast roof types, scheduled to minimise disruption to your operations
  • Technology specified for your building: inverters and system components selected from our portfolio of tried and trusted brands to maximise output and long-term performance for your specific site
  • Real-time monitoring setup: from day one, you and our team can track your system’s performance and identify any issues instantly

Battery storage. Your solar, around the clock

Solar generates when the sun shines. Battery storage means that energy is available when you actually need it, including during expensive peak-rate periods and after dark. For Woking businesses with the right load profile, storage is the move that turns a good investment into a great one. Here’s what it unlocks for you:

  • Draw from stored solar energy during peak-rate hours and avoid grid premium pricing
  • Extend your solar coverage into evenings and overnight periods
  • Protect your critical operations against unexpected grid disruptions
  • Hold surplus energy and export at the most favourable SEG rate
  • Charge from the grid on off-peak tariffs

Storage isn’t right for every commercial site, but for many Woking businesses, it’s the upgrade that makes your solar system genuinely exceptional. Ask us whether it makes sense for yours.

The right technology for your commercial building

Powercor is technology-agnostic. We’re not tied to a single manufacturer, and we don’t apply the same system to every commercial building. The technology we specify for your Woking premises is determined by your roof configuration, shading profile, system size, load profile, storage requirements, and budget. chosen from the reliable, well-supported brands we work with most. These are brands which we have selected based on a strong UK market presence and long-term manufacturer support.

SolarEdge technology: Built to outperform

Powercor is a Strategic Partner to SolarEdge, one of the world’s largest solar technology manufacturers. That status gives you direct access to the best available hardware, installed by a team that knows how to get the most out of it.

SolarEdge Power Optimisers are a game-changer on commercial rooftops. In a conventional solar system, shading can drag down your entire array’s output. Power Optimisers eliminate that problem at panel level, so every square metre of your roof is earning its keep.

Panel-level monitoring comes as standard too. If a single panel begins to underperform due to soiling, physical damage, or a developing fault, it’s flagged automatically. Issues get resolved before they quietly eat into your returns.

EV charging and LED upgrades. Complete your energy picture

Solar is often the anchor of a wider energy upgrade and Powercor can deliver the complete picture for your Woking commercial property.

Solar-Powered EV Charging: charge your staff vehicles, fleet, or visitor cars directly from your own array. As EV ownership accelerates across Woking’s workforce, on-site charging is increasingly an asset your tenants and employees expect.

LED Lighting and Controls: cut your base energy load by up to 70% and increase the share of your total consumption your solar array can cover. For commercial premises running lighting across long operating hours, this is one of the smartest upgrades you can make alongside solar.

Talk to our team about combining these upgrades into a single, fully managed energy improvement programme for your Woking premises.

Protecting your investment: Maintenance and monitoring

A commercial solar system is a long-term asset. Left unmanaged, soiling, minor faults, and component wear quietly erode the returns your system was designed to deliver. Our ongoing maintenance service makes sure that doesn’t happen to yours.

Our maintenance packages for Woking commercial clients cover professional panel cleaning, structural and mounting inspections, full electrical testing, thermal imaging surveys to detect developing hotspots, and remote performance monitoring so your system keeps delivering, year after year.

Why Woking businesses choose Powercor

  • Local: We’re locally knowledgeable, and genuinely accessible when you need us
  • 25+ years of experience in commercial electrical engineering and renewable energy installations
  • Technology-agnostic approach: we specify what’s right for your building from a portfolio of tried, tested, and well-supported brands, not a one-size-fits-all product

RHS Wisley: Three roofs. One programme. Zero compromise.

Client: Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Wisley

Location: Wisley, Surrey, GU23 6QX

Sector: Heritage & Charitable Horticulture

Project Type: Commercial Rooftop Solar PV (Multi-Site)

Project overview

RHS Wisley is one of the UK’s most visited horticultural destinations. It’s also a large, energy-hungry estate, and the team there knew it was time to do something about it.

They chose Powercor to design and deliver a multi-building rooftop solar PV programme across three distinct operational buildings. Not three separate jobs bolted together. One joined-up programme, built to the same spec, delivering consistent performance across every roof. Here’s what that looked like.

The challenge: Scale, complexity, and a site worth protecting

You don’t take shortcuts on a heritage site. RHS Wisley’s estate consumes around 275,912 kWh of electricity every year, spread across three operational buildings with very different profiles:

  • Propagation Building: 35,880 kWh/year
  • FRF (Field Research Facility): 88,482 kWh/year
  • HSY (Horticultural Service Yard): 151,550 kWh/year

With energy costs rising and a clear organisational commitment to reducing carbon impact, RHS Wisley needed a trusted partner, not just an installer. They needed someone who could handle multiple buildings simultaneously, specify premium components, and deliver a result they could rely on for decades. That’s where Powercor came in.

The solution: Three systems, one joined-up programme

Rather than treating each building as a separate job, Powercor designed the three installations as a single cohesive programme. The same high-specification components across all sites. Consistent performance. Simpler long-term maintenance. One point of contact for everything.

The panels

All three systems use Trina Solar 435W S+ MBB Half-Cell N-Type Black modules. These are a premium, commercially proven panel technology selected for its high efficiency, low degradation rate, and long-term durability. Using a single panel specification across all three sites keeps maintenance straightforward and ensures spare parts compatibility throughout the programme’s lifetime.

The inverter technology: SolarEdge throughout

Powercor specified SolarEdge inverter and optimiser technology across the entire programme:

  • Propagation: SolarEdge Synergy 50kW three-phase inverter with Synergy Units + 120 Ɨ SolarEdge S440 Power Optimisers
  • FRF: SolarEdge 12.5kW three-phase inverter with S440 Optimisers
  • HSY: SolarEdge SE50K Manager (50kW) three-phase inverter with Synergy Unit + SolarEdge 33.3kW three-phase inverter + 118 Ɨ SolarEdge S1000 Power Optimisers

Module-level power electronics mean shading, soiling, or a single underperforming panel won’t drag down the whole array. On a heritage estate with mature tree canopy and seasonal shading, that matters. Every panel does its job, regardless of what’s happening next to it.

Each system also includes a SolarEdge Firefighter Gateway: in the event of a fire alarm, DC voltage across the roof shuts down automatically, protecting emergency responders on occupied and publicly accessible buildings. It’s a detail that matters, and it’s non-negotiable at Powercor.

Vision Engineering: 363.66 kWp rooftop solar PV installation

Client: Vision Engineering Ltd.

Location: The Freeman Building, Galileo Drive, Send, Woking, Surrey, GU23 7ER

Sector: Engineering / Advanced Manufacturing

Project Type: Commercial Rooftop Solar PV Installation

Project overview

Vision Engineering is a world-renowned British engineering company headquartered in Send, Surrey. They are highly regarded designers and manufacturers of precision optical and ergonomic products trusted by engineers and scientists around the globe. With a large manufacturing and office campus at The Freeman Building, their energy appetite is significant: around 800,000 kWh of electricity consumed every year.

In early 2024, they came to Powercor with a clear brief, cut their dependence on grid electricity, reduce operational energy costs, and back their sustainability commitments with something real.

Powercor responded with a large-scale rooftop solar proposal. After a site visit and detailed technical assessment, the design that took shape wasn’t just ambitious, it was one of the largest commercial rooftop installations in the area. Built to perform. Built to last.

The challenge

Energy-intensive manufacturing doesn’t come cheap. For Vision Engineering, 800,000 kWh of annual electricity consumption meant a significant and growing overhead. One made worse by rising grid electricity prices and increasing pressure, commercially and reputationally, to reduce carbon emissions.

They needed a proven, large-scale renewable energy solution that could integrate into their existing site infrastructure without disrupting operations, and deliver a return on investment they could actually feel.

A solution engineered to scale

Ā Powercor designed and installed a 363.66 kWp rooftop solar PV system, one of the largest commercial rooftop installations in the area. Split across two arrays, a 156.60 kWp array and a 207.06 kWp array. Both mounted at low inclination angles of 8° on the facility’s roof, oriented at 15° and 165° from south respectively. This dual-array configuration was carefully engineered to maximise available roof space and optimise generation across the full roofline.

Panels that perform

The system comprises 836 Trina Solar 435W S+ MBB half-cell, N-Type black-frame modules. Premium, high-efficiency panels from one of the world’s leading solar manufacturers. Trina Solar’s N-Type monocrystalline technology delivers superior real-world performance, including enhanced low-light generation and reduced degradation over time. Their system will keep performing strongly across its entire operational life. Not just in year one.

Inverters built for industry

Power conversion is handled by three Solis 5G Pro 100 kW three-phase solar inverters with DC isolators. These are industrial-grade units renowned for their reliability, efficiency, and advanced grid management capabilities. Each inverter carries an online monitoring platform and energy performance monitor, giving Vision Engineering real-time visibility of system output, historical generation data, and performance analytics. Inverter warranties were extended to 10 years, and all units are kept current with the latest software updates as part of Powercor’s ongoing maintenance service.

End-to-end grid connection

Powercor handled everything: full scaffolding and roof access, system design and installation, testing and commissioning, two submain connections, structural engineering, and the complete G99 application with UKPN sign-off. The entire end-to-end process, managed so Vision Engineering could stay focused on what they do best.

The project was delivered in compliance with MCS installation standards and registered on the MCS Installation Database, enabling Vision Engineering to participate in the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme from day one.

Financial returns that stack up

The financial case is hard to argue with:

  • Annual solar self-consumption savings: 267,400 kWh Ɨ Ā£0.30/kWh = Ā£80,220.00
  • Annual SEG export income: 11,136.13 kWh Ɨ Ā£0.15/kWh = Ā£1,670.42
  • Total estimated annual financial benefit: Ā£81,890.42
  • Return on Investment: 3.3 years

A 3.3-year payback on a commercial solar installation of this scale is an outstanding result, particularly in a market defined by energy price volatility. With solar panels carrying a 20-year manufacturer guarantee and inverters covered for 10 years, Vision Engineering is looking at more than 16 years of effectively cost-free solar generation after payback. And as electricity prices rise, the value of your self-generated power only increases.
